ISRO’s Spadex undocks successfully, paving way for Chandrayaan-4
ISRO successfully undocked its Space Docking Experiment (Spadex) today, marking a major step toward future space missions. In a post on X, ISRO detailed the process, explaining how SDX-2 extended, released capture lever 3, disengaged its capture mechanism, and executed the de-capture command for both satellites.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh praised the achievement, calling it a proud moment for India. He highlighted how Spadex paves the way for ambitious projects like the Bharatiya Antriksha Station, Chandrayaan-4, and Gaganyaan. He also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support for keeping ISRO’s momentum high.
Launched on December 30, 2024, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, the Spadex mission featured two satellites, SDX-01 and SDX-02, known as Chaser and Target. ISRO successfully docked them on January 16. With this feat, India joins the United States, Russia, and China as the only nations to achieve space docking.
This success strengthens India’s position in space technology and boosts confidence in future human and robotic space missions.
