The government introduced the Immigration and Foreigners Bill 2025 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The bill aims to modernize immigration laws by regulating entry, exit, and stay of foreigners. Opposition leaders called it unconstitutional and demanded a review by a Joint Parliamentary Committee.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah plans to introduce the bill, granting the Centre authority over passport and travel document requirements. The move has sparked debate, with critics warning of potential legal conflicts.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought a response from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) regarding Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh’s plea for interim bail or custody parole. Rashid challenged a March 10 Patiala House Court order that denied him custody parole to attend the ongoing Parliament session.

In Lok Sabha, opposition leaders criticized the BJP-led NDA government for its handling of ethnic violence in Manipur. They argued that peace cannot be imposed by force and called for a political resolution. The heated discussion lasted over six hours.

Responding to the criticism, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured the House that law and order in Manipur has improved. She pledged full financial support from the Centre for the state’s development. On Monday, she presented Manipur’s 2025-26 budget, proposing an expenditure of ₹35,103.90 crore, up from ₹32,656.81 crore in the current year.
