Syria’s Ahmed al-Sharaa vows to hunt Assad loyalists, avenge 1300+ killings
Syria plunged into chaos as fresh violence erupted, leaving over 1,300 dead. Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa vowed to hunt Assad loyalists and punish those responsible for civilian killings.
A UK-based monitor reported that “massacres” on Syria’s west coast killed more than 830 civilians from Friday to Saturday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirmed that the overall death toll reached 1,311, including 231 security personnel and 250 pro-Assad fighters.
Sharaa, whose rebel group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) overthrew Assad in December, addressed the nation in a televised speech. He warned of attempts by remnants of the old regime and foreign backers to fuel division and civil war. “We will firmly hold accountable anyone involved in civilian bloodshed,” he declared.
The violence escalated after an ambush on government forces Thursday, triggering clashes between Assad loyalists and state troops. Sharaa promised justice, vowing that Syria would not fall into further turmoil.
