BJP party office ransacke by miscreants in North Bengal
Dinhata(Coochbehar)/Kolkata, (HS) :The BJP party office in the north Bengal district town of Dinhata was ransacked and damaged after clashes broke out between a gang of miscreants and BJP supporters over the issue of cow smuggling.
According to reports reaching the state police headquarters here this afternoon, clashes broke out early this morning after two truck loads of cows were intercepted by some people near Dinhata town following a tip off that the animals were being smuggled out to neighbouring Bangladesh by a gang of inter state smugglers,a very common phenomenon in this part of West Bengal.
Though the people accompanying these animals in the trucks denied that they were cow smugglers and claimed that they bought these animals from an animal trader, they could not produce any valid document in support of their claim. Soon the altercation between the two groups turned into a clash where brickbats and other missiles were used freely.
A police force rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control by resorting to a mild lathi charge in which however, none was injured. Though the miscreants dispersed following the intervention of the police, soon they returned and ransacked the local BJP office with iron rods and sticks and broke its furniture before fleeing.
Later protesting against the unprovoked attacks on party office and on BJP workers by unidentified miscreants, who were also believed to be members of an interstate gang of cow smugglers in the district, BJP supporters staged a dharna in front of Dinhata Police station, demanding immediate arrest of all culprits on charge of ransacking the party office. But none was arrested so far.
As tension prevailed in the area a strong police camp was posted in the locality, the reports said.
