“Even monkeys wouldn’t…”: Wasim Akram slams Pakistan’s move against India in Champions Trophy

Pakistan crashed out of the 2025 Champions Trophy after losing to India and suffering another defeat in the group stage. This early exit marks a new low for Pakistan cricket. Once known for unpredictability, the team has lost its spark in recent years. Their last major trophy came in 2017 when they defeated India in the Champions Trophy final. Since then, they have failed to beat India in ODIs.
Frustrated by the team’s poor performance, former captain Wasim Akram launched a scathing attack. He criticized their on-field approach and even mocked their diet.
“I saw a plate full of bananas during the drinks break. Even monkeys don’t eat that many bananas!” Akram said on a post-match show. “If Imran Khan had been our captain, he would have thrashed us for this.”
Akram slammed Pakistan for playing outdated cricket while the rest of the world has evolved.
“We need drastic changes. We’ve been playing archaic white-ball cricket for years. Bring in fearless young players. If you need to replace five or six guys, do it!” he urged. “Even if we lose for the next six months, start building for the 2026 T20 World Cup now.”
Akram also exposed Pakistan’s weak bowling attack, blaming it for repeated failures.
“In the last five ODIs, our bowlers have taken only 24 wickets at an average of 60. That’s worse than Oman and the USA!” he revealed. “Out of 14 ODI teams, Pakistan’s bowling average is the second worst.”
Pakistan now faces a tough rebuilding phase, with calls for sweeping changes growing louder.
