Atishi slams Delhi CM Rekha Gupta for ‘Broken promises’ after first cabinet meet

AAP leader Atishi on Thursday accused Delhi’s new BJP-led government of breaking its pre-poll promise. She slammed chief minister Rekha Gupta’s cabinet for not approving financial aid of ₹2,500 per month for women in its first meeting.
Atishi claimed the BJP had “made up its mind” to deceive the people. She reminded voters that BJP had promised to pass the scheme in its first cabinet meeting. “The new CM Rekha Gupta and her ministers took oath. At 7 pm, the cabinet met. Women were expecting the scheme to be approved, but it didn’t happen,” she said in a video on X.
“The BJP broke its promise on day one. They didn’t pass the scheme. They have decided to cheat the people,” she added.
Meanwhile, chief minister Rekha Gupta announced her government’s decision to implement the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme in Delhi. BJP had criticized the AAP government for not rolling out the scheme earlier.
Under Ayushman Bharat, each beneficiary will get ₹10 lakh health coverage, with ₹5 lakh from the Centre and ₹5 lakh from the Delhi government. Gupta also revealed that her government will table 14 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports on the AAP’s past performance. She accused the previous administration of blocking these reports.
When asked about Atishi’s remarks, Gupta dismissed them. “This is our government. We will decide the agenda. Let us work. She did what she had to while in power,” she said.
The clash between AAP and BJP over poll promises continues, with both sides pushing their narratives. As Delhi’s new government moves forward, its decisions will be closely watched.
