Akhilesh Yadav claims conspiracy behind Triveni Sangam water concerns

Akhilesh Yadav accused the Uttar Pradesh government of hiding pollution concerns at Triveni Sangam. His remarks came a day after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath dismissed fears of faecal contamination in the river, where thousands are taking a dip during MahaKumbh.
Yadav shared a news report from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on X. The report, submitted to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), stated that river water quality failed bathing standards at most locations. Monitoring on January 12-13, 2025, confirmed contamination.
“This report exposes the truth,” Yadav wrote. “In Lucknow, the government called it false and claimed everything was under control.” He alleged a conspiracy to suppress pollution data and control media narratives.
The Samajwadi Party leader questioned whether misleading the public amounted to “contempt of a government board.” He suggested authorities were preventing media from reporting water contamination.
Meanwhile, CM Yogi defended the government’s actions in the state assembly. He assured that officials continuously monitor and purify water at Triveni Sangam.
“People are raising questions about water quality,” Yogi said. “All drains around Sangam are sealed, and we release water only after purification.”
He cited the latest data from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB). “The Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) level near Sangam is below 3, and Dissolved Oxygen is around 8-9. This means the water is fit for bathing and religious rituals,” he asserted.
The controversy continues as both leaders stand firm on their claims.
