Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma took oath as a cabinet minister in Delhi’s new government on Thursday. BJP leaders and supporters gathered at Ramlila Maidan to witness the swearing-in ceremony, where six ministers, including Verma, assumed office.

Verma gained national attention after defeating AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal in the 2025 Delhi assembly election. Many saw him as a frontrunner for the chief minister’s post, but the party ultimately chose Rekha Gupta to lead the government.

Addressing the media, Verma expressed his gratitude to BJP leadership and the people of Delhi. “I am a dedicated BJP worker and will fulfill every responsibility given to me. The people of Delhi have shown faith in PM Modi’s vision, and we will work to make Delhi the most beautiful capital,” he said.

Who is Parvesh Verma?

  1. Political Legacy – Verma is the son of former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma. His uncle, Azad Singh, served as mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
  2. Early Political Career – He made his electoral debut in 2013, winning from Mehrauli against then-Delhi assembly speaker Yoganand Shastri.
  3. Lok Sabha Success – BJP fielded him from West Delhi in 2014. He won the seat and retained it in 2019.
  4. Controversial Remarks – Verma has faced criticism for inflammatory statements. In 2020, the Election Commission barred him from campaigning for calling Kejriwal a “terrorist.”
  5. Defeating Kejriwal – In 2025, BJP fielded Verma from the New Delhi seat. He defeated Kejriwal by 4,089 votes.

Verma’s victory marked a major shift in Delhi’s political landscape. BJP, which had been out of power for 27 years, finally formed the government. With his new role in the cabinet, Verma is set to play a key part in shaping Delhi’s governance.
