Uttarakhand CM’s Cabinet clears new land law, set for budget session debut
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s cabinet approved a new land law, set for discussion in the upcoming budget session. Various political and non-political groups had long demanded stricter land regulations. Dhami had earlier assured that the law would be introduced soon.
After the cabinet’s approval, Dhami tweeted that the law respects public sentiment and will protect resources, cultural heritage, and citizens’ rights. He called it a historic step to preserve the state’s identity. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to safeguarding Uttarakhand’s interests.
The new law follows Himachal Pradesh’s model, imposing restrictions on outsiders buying land. These conditions aim to prevent uncontrolled land purchases and benefit local residents.
