Arvind Kejriwal conceded defeat in the Delhi assembly election, acknowledging the people’s mandate. In a video message, he congratulated the BJP and expressed hope that the party would fulfill its promises. He assured that AAP would act as a constructive opposition while continuing to serve Delhi’s people.

Kejriwal highlighted AAP’s contributions to health, education, and infrastructure over the last decade. He vowed to stay connected with the public despite the setback. The BJP secured 12 seats and led in 38, while AAP won 10 and led in 10 more. Congress failed to win a seat.

Kejriwal lost his New Delhi constituency to BJP’s Parvesh Verma by 4,089 votes. Verma polled 30,088 votes, while Kejriwal managed 25,999. Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit secured just 4,568 votes.

AAP first came to power in 2013, forming a short-lived government with Congress. It dominated the 2015 and 2020 elections, winning 67 and 62 seats, respectively. However, AAP has never won a parliamentary seat in Delhi.

In recent years, corruption allegations have plagued AAP leaders. Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Satyendar Jain spent months in jail before securing bail. The party’s image suffered, contributing to its electoral decline.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed BJP’s victory, calling it a win for development and good governance. He thanked Delhi voters on X, promising rapid progress and a stronger role for the capital in building a developed India.
