Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States on February 12-13, according to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. The visit will mark his first trip to the U.S. since President Donald Trump began his second term. During the visit, PM Modi will meet with President Trump.

Misri emphasized that PM Modi’s visit makes him one of the first world leaders to meet Trump after his inauguration. The announcement comes shortly after a White House official confirmed Trump had invited the Indian prime minister to Washington.

In late January, President Trump shared that he had a conversation with PM Modi. He mentioned, “I had a long talk with him this morning, and he’s going to be coming to the White House next month, probably in February.” The phone call on January 27 saw both leaders discuss global peace, security, and collaboration on key areas, including technology, trade, and defense.

PM Modi expressed India’s strong commitment to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership with the United States. He said, “We are committed to working together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security.”

The U.S. is India’s largest trading partner, with two-way trade surpassing $118 billion in the 2023/24 period. India posted a trade surplus of $32 billion with the U.S. This trade relationship highlights the importance of further strengthening cooperation in various sectors.

India views the U.S. as a critical partner in its efforts to counter China’s growing influence. The two countries are also focused on expanding trade relations, especially in technology and defense. Additionally, India is seeking to ease the process for skilled worker visas, which will benefit its citizens looking to work in the U.S.

The visit underscores the strengthening ties between the two nations and paves the way for continued collaboration on global challenges. Both leaders are expected to discuss mutual interests that will further cement the strategic partnership between the two countries.
