Congress leader Ajay Maken on Tuesday attacked AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal over his claims about Delhi’s water supply. Maken warned that if Kejriwal was lying about poison in the water, it amounted to treason. He demanded an investigation into statements made by both the BJP-led Haryana government and Kejriwal.

Maken stressed the need for accountability. “If Kejriwal is lying, it’s treason. If Haryana is responsible, action must be taken. If Kejriwal is spreading falsehoods, he must face consequences,” he said at a press conference.

Kejriwal’s remarks on Monday triggered the controversy. He alleged that Haryana had poisoned Delhi’s water supply and accused the state government of planning a “genocide” against Delhi residents. His statement sparked a heated political battle between AAP, Congress, and BJP.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini responded sharply. He threatened legal action against Kejriwal for his accusations. Meanwhile, Delhi Jal Board CEO dismissed Kejriwal’s claims as “factually incorrect” and “baseless” in a letter to the chief secretary.

Maken also questioned INDIA bloc allies, including SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, for backing AAP ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. He urged opposition leaders to recognize Congress as the strongest challenger to BJP and warned against weakening the party.

Congress once ruled Delhi for 15 years but failed to win a single seat in the last two assembly elections. In contrast, AAP dominated both polls, winning 67 and 62 seats in 2015 and 2020, respectively. BJP secured only three and eight seats in those elections.

With Delhi Assembly elections set for February 5 and vote counting on February 8, political tensions continue to rise. A total of 699 candidates are contesting for 70 seats in the national capital, making this a crucial battle for all major parties.
