BCCI rejects ‘Pakistan’ on Team India’s Champions Trophy kits, ICC responds!
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faces fresh controversy after reportedly refusing to have ‘Pakistan’ printed on Team India’s Champions Trophy kits. Media reports suggest that the BCCI is hesitant to follow the ‘host nation regulation,’ as the tournament will be held in Dubai, not Pakistan.
However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has responded firmly, stating that the Indian team must include ‘Pakistan’ on the kit. According to ICC regulations, every team must feature the tournament logo and the host country’s name, regardless of where the matches are played.
An ICC official emphasized, “It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule.” The ICC also warned that strict action could be taken against India if the Champions Trophy logo, with the host country’s name, is absent from their players’ kits.
The tension between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has escalated in recent months. This followed the BCCI’s refusal to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. While a compromise was eventually reached, the Indian board might face financial consequences when India hosts future ICC events.
Another point of uncertainty is whether Indian captain Rohit Sharma will travel to Pakistan for a curtain-raiser event involving all the skippers of the participating teams. The BCCI has not yet confirmed whether Sharma will be allowed to cross the border. The situation remains fluid, and both the BCCI and ICC are carefully navigating this sensitive issue ahead of the tournament.
