Trump warns of 100% tariffs on India, BRICS nations over trade disputes!
Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States, has renewed his warning of 100% tariffs against BRICS nations, including India, if they attempt to replace the US dollar. Speaking on Monday, Trump said, “If the BRICS nations want to do that, that’s okay, but we’re going to put at least a 100% tariff on the business they do with the United States.”
BRICS, a bloc of 10 nations—Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the UAE—has been exploring alternatives to the US dollar in global trade. Trump’s latest statement follows a similar warning in December, where he demanded these countries abandon any plans to create a new BRICS currency or reduce reliance on the dollar. He cautioned, “They will face 100% tariffs and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful US economy.”
Trump’s firm stance reflects his commitment to protecting the dollar’s global dominance. He views any de-dollarization efforts as a direct challenge to US economic supremacy. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar previously clarified that India had no intention of supporting de-dollarization or creating a BRICS currency. His remarks align with India’s current economic policies, emphasizing stability in global trade frameworks.
Trump’s tariff threats highlight growing tensions between the US and BRICS nations. As these countries explore strengthening economic ties, the US sees such moves as a potential threat to its economic influence. Analysts suggest Trump’s aggressive stance could strain diplomatic relations further, especially with key trading partners like India and China.
In addition to trade, Trump addressed immigration policies on Monday. Linking tariffs to economic expansion, he emphasized the need for legal immigration. “I’m fine with legal immigration. I like it. We need people, and I’m absolutely fine with it. We want to have it,” Trump stated. He suggested his tariff policies would boost manufacturing, creating jobs that require an expanded workforce. His remarks underline his focus on economic growth through controlled immigration policies.
Trump’s bold rhetoric on tariffs and immigration reflects his broader strategy to prioritize US economic interests. By warning BRICS nations against de-dollarization, he aims to safeguard the dollar’s pivotal role in global trade. His pro-immigration stance signals a calculated approach to balancing economic expansion with workforce needs.
As BRICS nations navigate these challenges, the US continues to assert its dominance in global trade. Trump’s tariff threats serve as a reminder of the high stakes involved in reshaping the global financial order. Observers will watch closely as these developments unfold, shaping the future of US-BRICS relations and the global economy.
