PM Modi to unveil Z-Morh tunnel, boosting year-round connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Z-Morh Tunnel in Sonamarg, Jammu and Kashmir, on January 13. This project, located on the Srinagar-Sonamarg road, ensures year-round connectivity to Ladakh. The 12-km tunnel, valued at ₹2,700 crore, consists of the main tunnel, an egress tunnel, and approach roads.

At an altitude of 8,650 feet, the tunnel bypasses landslide-prone areas and offers safer, uninterrupted access to Ladakh. It also promotes tourism, turning Sonamarg into a year-round destination. This will boost winter tourism and improve local livelihoods.

The Z-Morh Tunnel, along with the upcoming Zojila Tunnel, will reduce route lengths and increase vehicle speeds, improving connectivity in Ladakh. This project is a significant step forward for defense logistics and will promote economic growth and socio-cultural integration in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. After nine years of construction, the Z-Morh Tunnel will officially open today.
