The Prayagraj police have implemented strict security measures for the Mahakumbh, which begins on January 13 and runs until February 26. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed authorities to ensure robust protection for the expected 45 crore visitors.

In response, the police have created a circular security system around Prayagraj, with 102 checkpoints along seven critical routes leading into the district. Police officers will conduct checks and frisk both vehicles and people. Uttar Pradesh’s Director General of Police, Prashant Kumar, highlighted that 40,000 police personnel, including cybercrime experts, have established a sophisticated surveillance web, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology to monitor the crowd.

Kumar further explained that the police force has deployed over 1,000 officers, including 71 inspectors, 234 sub-inspectors, and 645 constables. Their work will focus on managing the 102 checkpoints, along with 113 Home Guards and Provincial Armed Constabulary jawans. These personnel will ensure constant monitoring, with extra resources such as Vajra vehicles, drones, and anti-sabotage teams stationed throughout the event area.

Additionally, authorities have set up an “impenetrable security chakravyuh” around Prayagraj, protecting critical sites like temples and akhadas. To ensure that everything runs smoothly, mock drills have been held in coordination with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the National Security Guard (NSG), and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).

Advanced technology will also play a key role in the security strategy. The police have installed 2,700 AI-enabled cameras around the Kumbh area. To monitor the waterways, they will deploy 113 underwater drones. These drones will add another layer of safety, ensuring the well-being of pilgrims near the riverbanks.

The Mahakumbh, a major event held once every 12 years at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati River, is expected to draw millions of devotees. The grand Shahi Snan (royal bath) will occur on significant dates, including Makar Sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (January 29), and Basant Panchami (February 3).

In conclusion, Uttar Pradesh police have prepared a comprehensive and advanced security framework to safeguard participants, ensuring the safety of the Mahakumbh 2025 event and protecting the pilgrims from potential threats.
