With less than a month until Delhi Assembly elections, BJP released its second list of 29 candidates. The list features notable names like Kapil Mishra, a former AAP minister and now BJP Vice President, who will contest from Karawal Nagar. Harish Khurana, son of ex-chief minister Madan Lal Khurana, will run from Moti Nagar.

Karnail Singh, BJP’s temple cell chief, will take on AAP’s ex-minister Satyendar Jain in Shakur Basti. Neelam Krishan Pahalwan, a BJP councillor known for securing the highest votes in Dichaon Kalan ward, will contest from Najafgarh. Meanwhile, Parvesh Verma, son of former CM Sahib Singh Verma, was earlier named in the first list and will run from Bijwasan.

The party dropped sitting MLA Mohan Singh Bisht from Karawal Nagar, paving the way for Kapil Mishra. Mishra, who joined BJP in 2019, previously represented Karawal Nagar as an AAP candidate. He gained attention in 2020 for controversial remarks against anti-CAA protests, which he referred to as “mini-Pakistans.”

BJP’s second list includes five women, increasing the total number of women candidates to seven across 58 declared seats. The first list featured figures like former MP Ramesh Bidhuri and ex-Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely.

The AAP announced candidates for all 70 seats back in December, aiming for an early edge. Congress has revealed 47 candidates so far.

Delhi heads to polls on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8. BJP’s strategy, emphasizing prominent leaders and fresh faces, signals an intense electoral battle in the coming weeks.
