The Central Government approved funding for AI Touch to develop an AI-powered 5G RAN platform. This project aims to enhance 5G network efficiency by integrating RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC), Service Management and Orchestration (SMO), and Network Data Analytics Function (NWDAF) modules. The Center for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) will oversee its implementation.

C-DOT CEO Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay emphasized the project’s commitment to high technological standards. After signing the contract, he assured that C-DOT would ensure quality execution. Dr. Parag Aggarwal, DDG of the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF), highlighted that this initiative would not only drive AI-driven advancements but also establish a foundation for a self-reliant 5G ecosystem.

The project has received financial support through the TTDF scheme under the Department of Telecommunications’ Digital India Fund (formerly USOF). AI Touch will focus on developing essential components for the 5G RAN platform, including RIC, SMO, and NWDAF modules. These innovations will simplify operations, improve cost efficiency for mobile network operators (MNOs), and encourage new telecom experiments.

The ministry explained that this initiative targets reducing operational complexities in the telecom sector. It also aims to support indigenous development of a robust 5G ecosystem, paving the way for future advancements. By leveraging AI, the project seeks to address challenges, optimize resources, and create solutions that drive the country’s progress in next-generation telecommunications.
