Vijender Gupta petitions HC to ensure CAG reports reach assembly
Vijender Gupta, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, along with seven BJP MLAs, moved the Delhi High Court seeking action against the Delhi government. They demanded directives for the government to table 14 pending CAG reports in the Assembly.
The petition alleged that the government failed to fulfill its assurance to the court. On December 16, the Delhi government had promised to forward the reports to the Assembly Speaker within two to three days. However, even after a week, the reports remain pending. Additionally, no notification for a special Assembly session has been issued.
The BJP leaders claimed the reports, related to liquor tax, pollution, and finance, are stuck with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Finance Minister Atishi Marlena. Despite repeated requests from the Lieutenant Governor, the reports have not been forwarded for tabling in the Assembly.
During the last hearing, the Delhi government stated it had sent relevant files to the Lieutenant Governor, who returned them to the Chief Minister’s office for Assembly submission. Yet, no further action occurred.
The BJP MLAs also alleged that they had contacted the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and Assembly Speaker about the matter but received no response. Frustrated with the delay, BJP members staged a protest outside Atishi Marlena’s residence.
The petition urged the court to issue immediate instructions to the Delhi government for compliance. It also sought orders to convene a special Assembly session to table the reports without further delay.
