RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the need for proper understanding of religion, warning that misconceptions lead to global atrocities. Speaking at the Mahanubhav Ashram Shatakpurti Samaroh in Amravati, Maharashtra, on Sunday, he called on religious sects to educate followers effectively.

“There have been atrocities in the world due to misunderstanding of religion. Religion must be taught and understood correctly. Half knowledge leads to ‘Adharma’,” Bhagwat said, as reported by ANI. He stressed that incomplete knowledge causes oppression and violence in the name of religion. To counter this, he urged religious groups to clarify their beliefs and practices.

Earlier, addressing the Hindu Sewa Mahotsav in Pune, Bhagwat highlighted unity and warned against creating divisions. While celebrating the Ayodhya Ram Temple as a symbol of Hindu devotion, he urged restraint, saying, “Raking up new issues daily for enmity should stop. Instead, we should showcase harmony in our country to inspire the world.”

His remarks come amidst a surge of court petitions seeking inspections of Muslim religious sites, alleged to be built on Hindu temple ruins. For instance, tensions flared in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal after a recent inspection.

Bhagwat also addressed India’s cultural diversity. He acknowledged the coexistence of various ideologies and called for unity despite differences. Speaking on ‘Hinduness,’ he described it as eternal dharma rooted in humanity. “Sanatan Dharma promotes service beyond religious and social boundaries,” he noted.

Urging selfless service, he called it the essence of dharma and encouraged people to contribute to society without seeking recognition. Through his speeches, Bhagwat reiterated the importance of harmony and the dangers of religious misinterpretation.
