Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, responded to claims that Starlink was being used in Manipur, India, by stating that the satellite beams were turned off over the country. The controversy began after security forces seized internet devices during a raid in Keirao Khunou, Imphal East district, which included a device bearing the Starlink logo.

Social media users quickly pointed out the logo, suggesting that Starlink was being misused by terrorists. One user urged Musk to address the issue, prompting his reply that the claim was false, and Starlink satellite beams were not active in India.

The items seized by the Indian Army included a satellite antenna, a router, and 20 meters of FTP cables. Authorities are now investigating how the Starlink-like device made its way to the region. Starlink, which provides satellite internet, does not have a license to operate in India, raising concerns about the potential illegal use of its technology in sensitive areas.

Manipur has been in the midst of ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, which has left over 250 people dead and thousands homeless since May last year. The discovery of the Starlink device has heightened concerns over the use of unlicensed technology in conflict zones.
