Matthew Hayden’s key tip for Indian seamers to dismiss Aussie batters in third test
Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden has offered valuable advice to Team India’s pacers ahead of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. With the series tied at one Test each, the upcoming match in Brisbane becomes crucial for both teams.
Speaking to Star Sports, Hayden emphasized the need for Indian fast bowlers to bowl in the fourth and fifth stump lines, taking full advantage of the extra bounce at the Gabba. He pointed out that the pitch would offer favorable conditions for seamers and suggested that the Indian pacers should utilize the bounce to unsettle the Australian batters.
Hayden also mentioned the change from the pink-ball Test in the second match to the traditional red-ball format in Brisbane. He explained that both teams are more accustomed to playing with a red ball, which levels the playing field. While Australia dominated the pink-ball game in Adelaide, Hayden believes the red-ball conditions will give both teams a fair chance.
Addressing India’s batting, Hayden advised the team’s batters to spend time at the crease and aim for a score in the 350-range. He stressed that India must bat for an entire day without quick dismissals to remain competitive in the match. “You can’t be dismissed under a day. That is unacceptable,” he said.
Hayden also reflected on India’s strong performance at the Gabba, where they defeated Australia in the previous series to clinch a 2-1 victory. He acknowledged that while Brisbane is traditionally a home ground for Australia, India’s success there has given them confidence and positive memories. The upcoming match, therefore, promises to be an exciting and challenging contest for both teams.
