RS in chaos: MPs’ heated ruckus disrupts proceedings
The Rajya Sabha session on Tuesday descended into chaos, with both ruling and opposition MPs clashing in a heated ruckus. As a result, the proceedings were adjourned before noon, with no business transacted. The disturbance began right after obituary references and official papers were introduced.
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar mentioned receiving five notices under Rule 267, which allows for setting aside the day’s agenda to discuss urgent matters. However, the session quickly spiraled out of control as MPs raised slogans to support their respective issues, prompting Dhankhar to adjourn the House until 12:00 noon.
The session was marked by intense protests, reflecting the growing tensions in Parliament. Members of the opposition demanded a discussion on several unresolved matters, including the farmers’ protests and the ongoing crisis in Manipur. Meanwhile, the ruling party’s MPs strongly opposed the opposition’s attempts to raise these issues, further escalating the situation.
In response to the chaos, the Chairman emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum in the House, but the uproar made it impossible to proceed with the agenda.
The adjournment of the session highlights the ongoing struggle for dialogue and cooperation between the ruling party and the opposition, with both sides accusing each other of disregarding pressing national issues. The situation also reflects the challenges facing the Rajya Sabha in maintaining order and enabling constructive discussions.
The session, which was supposed to be productive, was instead derailed by the unrest, leaving important matters pending once again.
