Opposition chaos disrupts LS proceedings, stalls parliamentary work
The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 12 noon on Tuesday following protests by opposition members. The protests were sparked by their claims that important issues, such as the farmers’ protests in Delhi and the ongoing conflict in Manipur, were being ignored.
The opposition also took issue with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which accused Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s Forum of the Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation of alleged ties with the George Soros Foundation, calling it an attempt to destabilize India.
On Monday, both houses of Parliament were adjourned early after repeated disruptions. The opposition’s demands for a discussion were blocked, leading to chaos and three unscheduled adjournments. One major issue that remained unaddressed was the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which had been pending since last Thursday. Despite this, no significant business was conducted in the Lok Sabha that day due to the continuing disruptions.
The repeated adjournments and lack of progress in discussions highlight the deepening tensions between the opposition and the ruling government.
