Biden greenlights $1B helicopter deal with India to boost defense ties

The Biden Administration has approved the sale of MH-60R Multi-Mission Helicopters to India for $1.17 billion. The sale is designed to enhance India’s defense, especially in anti-submarine warfare.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) believes the deal will boost India’s military capabilities and strengthen its security posture.

The sale includes 30 Multifunctional Information Distribution System-Joint Tactical Radio Systems, along with other advanced equipment and support services. Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems will be the primary contractor. The deal will also require temporary deployment of U.S. officials and contractor representatives to India for technical support and oversight.

This sale demonstrates the Biden administration’s commitment to strengthening defense ties with global allies. It also marks a continuation of the robust U.S.-India defense relationship, just weeks before the administration’s term ends.
