Mohammed Shami took aim at former cricketer and broadcaster Sanjay Manjrekar after the latter predicted a drop in Shami’s price for the upcoming IPL auction. On Instagram, Shami shared a post of Manjrekar’s remarks, mocking him by calling him “Baba” (saint).

Manjrekar had suggested that Shami’s injury history could affect his IPL auction price. He stated that although teams would be interested, Shami’s past injuries, including a lengthy recovery from a recent one, could lead to concerns over his fitness during the season. This, he argued, might cause a reduction in Shami’s price.

Shami, who was sidelined since 2023 due to injury, made his comeback in the Ranji Trophy, impressing with four wickets in his first match back. Despite missing the 2024 IPL season, he had been a key performer for Gujarat Titans, including in their title-winning season in 2022. In 2023, he topped the IPL’s wicket-takers list with 28 wickets in 17 games.

Shami’s recent performances, including being India’s highest wicket-taker in the 2023 World Cup, have kept his prospects alive. His return to action fueled speculations that he could be called up for India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

In his Instagram post, Shami sarcastically referred to Manjrekar’s predictions, saying, “All hail the saint. Leave some knowledge for your future too!”
