Australian envoy discusses agri-tech collaboration with Indian Agriculture Secretary

Australian High Commissioner Philip Green met Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi. The meeting focused on deepening ties between India and Australia in agriculture and exploring collaboration opportunities.

Dr. Chaturvedi highlighted India’s priorities in agriculture, including ensuring food security, boosting farmer incomes, and improving nutrition. He discussed key initiatives like crop diversification, self-reliance in oilseeds and pulses, and strengthening Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). He also emphasized the role of technology, such as precision farming, digital agriculture, and small farm mechanization, in transforming the sector. Additionally, he praised startups for driving innovation in agriculture.

Philip Green acknowledged agriculture’s significance in Australia’s economy and expressed interest in expanding agri-tech collaboration. He stressed enhancing trade ties and identifying new areas for cooperation.

Both sides agreed to advance partnerships in agri-tech, horticulture, digital farming, and agricultural machinery, aiming to modernize and strengthen the sector.
