India and Qatar forge talks on renewable energy, fintech, startups, and tech
India and Qatar conducted Foreign Office Consultations (FOCs) to review their bilateral relations comprehensively. They examined high-level exchanges, trade, investment, energy, education, culture, and people-to-people ties.
Furthermore, the two nations discussed ways to deepen their partnership in renewable energy, fintech, startups, and technology. They also exchanged views on significant regional and global issues of mutual concern.
These nations share a rich history and multifaceted relations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Qatar in February 2024 and met with Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Later, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar visited Doha on June 30, 2024, where he held talks with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
Bilateral trade between India and Qatar amounts to approximately USD 14 billion annually. Mutual investments have also seen a steady increase. Additionally, both countries maintain a strong partnership in the energy sector. The presence of a large Indian community in Qatar further highlights their robust people-to-people connections.
Today’s discussions are expected to enhance the India-Qatar partnership even further. Both sides agreed to hold the next round of Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi at a mutually convenient date. This collaborative effort marks a significant step toward solidifying the ties between India and Qatar, paving the way for more extensive cooperation in various fields.
