Akhilesh Confirms SP-Congress Alliance for UP Bypolls
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav confirmed on Thursday that his party’s alliance with Congress will continue for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh bypolls. He made this statement during his visit to Etawah to honor his late father, Mulayam Singh Yadav, on his death anniversary. Yadav emphasized that the INDIA bloc, including the SP-Congress partnership, remains intact but refrained from delving into political details.
The SP had already announced candidates for six of the ten by-election seats, leaving Congress to demand five seats. These seats include Phulpur, Majhwan, Ghaziabad, Khair, and Meerapur. The SP’s candidates include Tej Pratap Yadav for Karhal, Naseem Solanki for Sisamau, Mustafa Siddiqui for Phulpur, and Ajit Prasad for Milkipur.
Most of these seats became vacant after their MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha. The Sisamau seat is up for bypoll due to the disqualification of SP MLA Irfan Solanki. Congress has expressed hopes of contesting these seats, despite recent setbacks in the Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir elections.
