President Murmu gave him a ceremonial reception, followed by Dr. Muizzu paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, where he praised Gandhi’s teachings for their lasting influence.
President Muizzu’s official visit to India, from October 6 to 10, began with a meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Sunday. After his warm reception by President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, he will meet other senior Union ministers to discuss key bilateral, regional, and global issues.
During his visit, President Muizzu will also travel to Mumbai and Bengaluru to attend business events, strengthening economic ties between the two nations. His visit emphasizes the Maldives’ importance as India’s key maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
This visit aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘SAGAR’ (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy,’ reinforcing the special relationship between India and the Maldives. Both nations are expected to enhance cooperation on various fronts during this visit, deepening their strategic partnership.
