Supreme Court to Rule on Tirupati Laddu Animal Fat Controversy
The petitions call for a judicial committee or a CBI probe into the alleged “criminal conspiracy” and “mismanagement” at TTD.
The Supreme Court will hear multiple petitions on Monday about the alleged use of animal fat in Tirupati laddus. This issue gained attention when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu claimed that animal fat was used in laddus distributed at the Sri Venkateswara Temple during the previous YSR Congress administration. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy and YV Subba Reddy filed petitions demanding a court-monitored investigation.
The petitions call for a judicial committee or a CBI probe into the alleged “criminal conspiracy” and “mismanagement” at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Petitioners argue that using non-vegetarian products in ‘prasadam’ violates Hindu religious customs and sentiments.
The case will be heard by Justices B. R. Gavai and K. V. Viswanathan. According to the petitioners, this act contradicts the core tenets of Hinduism and violates the right to freedom of religion under Article 25 of the Constitution.
Considering the global spiritual significance of the Tirumala Tirupati Balaji Temple for Hindus, the petitioners see this alleged violation as a serious issue that requires immediate judicial attention. They argue that a thorough investigation is necessary to protect religious customs and practices.
