Travis Head’s career-best 154 not out led Australia to a seven-wicket victory over England in the first ODI at Trent Bridge on Thursday. Chasing 316 for victory, Australia reached 317-3 with six overs to spare, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. This win marked Australia’s 13th consecutive ODI victory against all opponents.

Earlier, Marnus Labuschagne shone with the ball after Australia lost the toss. England started strong, sitting at 201-2 after 30 overs, with Ben Duckett aiming for a hundred on his home ground. However, Duckett fell for 95 after being caught and bowled by part-time leg-spinner Labuschagne. He also dismissed Harry Brook, who scored 39 in his first innings as England captain.

Labuschagne posted impressive ODI figures of 3-39 as England lost their last six wickets for just 59 runs. Adam Zampa, celebrating his 100th ODI, took 3-49 in his full 10 overs.

Labuschagne then contributed with the bat, scoring 77 not out off 61 balls in a strong partnership of 148 with Head. Head acknowledged his early luck in the innings, stating, “I got lucky. Jofra (Archer) bowled a hell of a spell at the start. Glad I can continue.”
