Thiruvananthapuram, 15 November(HS): Hindus in Kerala are upset and worried over their future. Having heard about the exodus of Hindus from Kashmir and Kairana in Uttar Pradesh, their counterparts have started speaking about the possible locations they may have to move out from God?s Own Country which is emerging as an Islamic Republic with political patronage of the CPI(M).
A video of Islamic scholars spitting on halal food prepared for serving in hotels is what has caused a new controversy. The video that went viral on social media shocked the Hindus of the State, known for their strong adherence to secularism and love for communism. But netizens who were aghast at the video (nay, videos as many more visuals flooded the social media from different parts of the State) made severe criticism of the action of the Muslim community.
On the other hand, the Islamists chose to justify the ritual of ?spitting on food? to be served in eateries by fielding religious scholars and maulvis who claimed that the spittle purified the food of all negative effects and germs. They even claimed that this was a practice introduced by the Prophet who was blessed with this information from the Almighty.
?This has been in vogue for decades and we were aware of this practice. That?s why we do not eat in Islamic hotels or in the houses of our Muslim brethren,? said Rajesh Nair, a company executive from Thiruvananthapuram.
He said that he does not have any issues with the practice of the Muslim community. ?It is their religious style of doing things and we do not have any right to question the ritual. The best thing to do for us is to stay away from such houses, hotels and gatherings where Islamic food is served,? said Nair.
Interestingly, 80 per cent of the eateries in the State are owned and operated by Muslims. This means that people who consume food from the hotels owned by the Muslims are forced to eat delicacies sprayed with the spittle of the moulvi. The Islamic preachers and religious scholars who justified the ritual through social media said this has been a practice in vogue for centuries and there was nothing abnormal in spitting in food to be eaten by others.
There were videos in social media of Islamists spitting on vessels meant for serving food but many viewers just scoffed it off by terming the same as fake and counterfeit. But the open admission by Muslim religious scholars has opened a Pandora?s Box and chances of many such establishments downing their shutters are rising by the day. As usual, the secular media in Kerala maintain silence over the incident as part of its routine practice of burying all reports which are critical of Muslims.
