26 Maoists killed in encounter with police in Gadchiroli forests of Maharashtra

Nagpur, 14 November (H.S) A Press release by the District Police superintendent Ankit Goyal. stated,””We have recovered the bodies of 26 naxals so far from the forest,” said district Superintendent of Police.The gunbattle took place in the morning at Korchi in Mardintola forest area when a C-60 police commando team was conducting a search operation led by additional SP Soumya Munde, Goyal said.

Reports from from sources indicate ,While identity of the slain naxals was yet to be ascertained, according to sources a top rebel leader was suspected to be among them.which is to be officially confirmed

Four police personnel were also seriously injured in the action and were taken to Nagpur by a helicopter for treatment officials had said earlier.The district lies on the border of Chhattisgarh

According to the reports, The gun-battle which started in the early hours of Saturday in the dense forest of Kolgut-Dandat was continuing till evening with at least 26 fatalities notched among the Maoists, while four security personnel were also seriously hurt, Goyal said. The injured jawans are being airlifted to Nagpur hospital for treatment.

As per initial reports received at the Gadchiroli district headquarters, the encounter was with a Dalam of the banned CPI(Maoist) and commandos of the crack C-60 unit of the Anti Naxal Operations.

Now, a massive combing operation has also been undertaken to detect more bodies of the slain extremists.More bodies are likely to be recovered as the encounter continued till late in the evening in dense forest at multiple locations.
