Thiruvananthapuram, 29 October (H.S): Days after Cherian Philip, the intellectual face of the CPI(M), who shocked the party with his decision to return to his parent organization, the Indian National Congress, the Marxists sprang a surprise on Thursday by declaring that A A Rahim, an Islamist leader would be the new national president of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the party?s youth wing.

Rahim, described as youth icon by the Marxists, is the CPI(M)?s well known intellectual face and succeeds Mohammed Riyaz, Kerala minister for PWD and Tourism who is the new son-in-law of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Veena, Pinarayi Vijayan?s daughter had divorced her first husband and married Riyaz, who himself is a divorcee. Riyaz was the young intellectual who is reputed to have the drafted the new ideology of the CPI(M) in the era of neo liberalism. The BJP?s central leadership has been shocked by the appointment of Rahim as the DYFI president because the latter is known for his political acumen and known in Kerala as next to Che Guevara.

The Marxists claim that the DYFI is the world?s largest youth organization with units spread across the continents. Rahim who is heading the Kerala wing of the DYFI is being replaced with another young Islamist leader by name Rafeeq, which further proves that the Islamic extremist elements have taken control of the CPI(M).

Cherian Philip, who was a Congress leader for almost 30 years and an acolyte of former chief ministers Oommen Chandy and A K Antony joined the CPI(M) in early 2006 when he was denied a ticket to contest the assembly or Lok Sabha election. Philip was made the chairman of the Kerala State Tourism Development Corporation by the CPI(M) for which he expressed his gratitude by exposing the roles played by Antony and Chandy in 1995 to dethrone the then Chief Minister K Karunakaran by conceiving the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) spy case. It cost Karunakaran the chief minister?s post and Antony became the Chief Minister. The ISRO spy case sounded the death knell of Karunakaran?s political life.

Cherian Philip, Antony and Chandy are the three Christian pillars of the Congress Party. The trio is known for their hatred towards the Hindus. Both Chandy and Antony had made use of Philip to abuse and rebuke the Hindu leaders of the Congress as well as other political parties.

Besides Karunakaran, another well known person in Kerala, Prof A Sukumaran Nair, was a victim of the vicious tongue of Philip. The Antony faction of the Congress in Kerala is full of Christians and enjoys the confidence of the Congress High Command. Philip had hoped that the CPI(M) would nominate him either to Rajya Sabha or make him a minister in the Pinarayi Vijayan Government. With that dreams remaining a mirage, the intellectual face of the CPI(M) bade farewell to the Marxists and made it known that he would be serving Antony and Chandy in the coming days.
