Battle honour day of 2 Sikh Regiment celebrated
Ludhiana, September 6 ( H S ) : Remembering the martyrs, serving and veteran soldiers, for their courage on the Battle Honour Day of 2 Sikh Regiment, State Information Commissioner (SIC) Lt General AK Sharma (Retd) on Monday said that this momentous day gives us an opportunity to celebrate the historic day and reiterate the solidarity with the armed forces.
Paying floral tributes to the martyrs at Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum, Lt General Sharma (Retd.) said that every soldier has commitment to sacrifice his life for the sake of nation and serving the country by donning a uniform is really a matter of great pride and satisfaction for every individual.
Sharma said that we all enjoy sleep knowing well that the brave soldiers are safeguarding borders. He said that the country would be indebted forever to the soldiers as they laid their lives for the country.
He told that the society and nation will always remain thankful to martyrs who served country with patriotic fervour to defend its sovereignty and laid down their lives.
SIC said that the sacrifice made by the martyrs would ever act as a beacon to inspire the youth to follow their footsteps and serve the nation.
Col Anup Singh Dharni who was part of the Regiment and fought 1965 war and later captured Raja Picquet, also paid tributes to the martyrs.
Battle Honour Day is celebrated to mark the day of victory. At this time he disclosed many facts about the battle. In the operation, the regiment had lost 40 men, including its commanding officer Lt Col NN Khanna.
The prominent among those present were Col TS Kalra (Retd), Col KK Verma (Retd), Deputy Director Cdr BS Virk (Retd).
