First time, command of both Congress and Govt. in Patiala, Sikhs and Sidhu’s families.
Chandigarh, July 19 (H S): The Congress, which is taking the caste equation, is now seen to be defeated in this equation. The Congress government in Punjab and the command of the state Congress has now been concentrated in Patiala in the Malwa region of the state. State Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and newly appointed Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu, both hail from Patiala. Both are from Sikh families and also belong to the same caste, Sidhu family.
Various discussions have started in the Congress and in general regarding Sidhu’s appointment. The biggest discussion is about the confrontation between Captain-Sidhu because Sidhu is considered less strained. It is worth mentioning that Captain has dared Sidhu to contest the assembly elections from Patiala, last month.
There was also ongoing lobbying by Sidhu from the party high command to legislators in the state over the post of state Congress President before his appointment . Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had even written a letter to the party high command about the possibility of a split in the party in protest against giving the post of President to Sidhu. But the Congress did not care about it.
On Sunday evening, Sidhu was appointed the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. There are about 16 promises, which are to be fulfilled including abolition of sand mafia, liquor mafia, transport mafia, expensive and cuts of electricity, sacrilege of holy Granths , cessation of drugs, among the things and these issues were being raised by Sidhu.
The Captain Government, who had come into power on such issues are still waiting to complete even after passing of four and half year. Sidhu is yet to be ‘throned ‘. After the appointment of Sidhu, various political parties of the state are going to hold review meetings to make a fresh strategy. Aam Aadmi Party will start a new churning from today itself. The leader of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly of the party, Harpal Singh Cheema, said that the biggest question would be how two swords would stand in same sheath of the Congress.
Already infighting has damaged the development of Punjab and the circumstances of the state and it is still going on. Akali Dal leader Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema’s commented that the Congress was going to end now in Punjab too. He said that already people of the state disappointed with CM Amrendra Singh for his non-availability and now Sidhu , he is two steps ahead of former. Sidhu has often opened a front against his own Chief Minister. Discussions are going on about whether Amarendra Singh comes on Sidhu’s coronation or whether all this will also become secondary in the name of Corona. Right now, leaders have been going congratulating Sidhu at his home.
On the other hand, the Chief Minister of the state, Captain Amarinder Singh, has called a meeting of MLAs today in changed circumstances. A District Congress President said that district presidents and in-charges have also been called in the meeting. Now all eyes are on the captain.
