11 people killed as four story building collapses in Malad

Mumbai, 10 June (HS): Eleven people, including six children, were killed and seven others injured when a four-storey building collapsed in Malad’s Malvani area late on Wednesday night after a daylong rain in Mumbai.

According to the police, the four-storey building located in the New Collector’s Compound in Malvani suddenly collapsed at 11.30 pm on Wednesday night. As part of the building fell on a nearby two-storey house, another house also turned into rubble. On getting information about the incident, fire brigade personnel reached for relief and rescue work was started. Bodies of 11 people have been recovered from the rubble. Seven injured in this incident were immediately admitted to the hospital. One of them is in critical condition. Many people are still feared trapped under the debris.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Thakur said that 18 people have been evacuated from the spot, out of which 11 people have died. Seven injured are undergoing treatment. The work of clearing the debris continues on Thursday morning as well.
