Major Fire Accident reported at HPCL refinery Vizag

Visakhapatnam: May 26(H.S): A major fire accident reported at the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) refinery in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh was doused out on Tuesday evening.
Locals rushed out when they heard factory sirens blaring thrice indicative of a major fire incident. According to police, there was a deafening sound followed by was a ball of fire.
HPCL and district authorities heaved a sigh of relief as safety measures and firefighting was activated immediately. The fire has been extinguished.
District Collector Vijaychand informed that there were no casualties. Local reports claim that the fire originated from terminal 3 of the plant that also stores crude oil. Luckily fire tenders are ever-present on the premises of this terminal.
Teams from NDRF/HPCL/ personnel from the Eastern Naval Command and the AP State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department swung into action and put out the fire in a quick operation.
“As per information, a blast reported at the Unit-3 plant in HPCL. Five fire tenders are present at the spot. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained,” DCP Aishwarya Rastogi said.
Videos of the fire tragedy became viral on social media that showed huge flames and plumes of smoke coming out of the HPCL plant.
Vishakapatnam is already reeling with Pandemíc and the threat of the ‘Yaas’ cyclone looms large. It was indeed a relief for the district administration and also the Navy when the fire was brought under control.
