13 prisoners escaped from Covid jail in Rewari, Haryana
New Delhi, 9 May (HS): As many as 13 prisoners have escaped from the Covid jail built in Rewari district of Haryana. An alert has been sounded in all the districts of the state after the incident. The Director General of the Jail Department has issued an order to investigate the incident.
A new jail has been built by the Haryana government in village Phideri in Rewari district. In view of the increasing cases of Corona, the Phideri Jail was converted into Covid Jail of the state about a week ago. About 450 infected prisoners from different jails of Haryana have been kept in this jail.
On Saturday and Sunday, in the middle of the night, 13 captives locked in the same barrack cut the grill and made a rope of bedsheet and escaped by jumping the wall of the prison. It is said that all the escaped captives were locked under heinous crime. The incident came to light on Sunday morning when prisoners were taken out for Corona medicines and early morning attendance.
The jail administration and police are on their toes after the incident. Different teams have been formed to nab the prisoners. According to the police all the borders of adjoining districts have been sealed.
The sources said that the Director General of Police, Haryana is closely monitoring the development in the case.
