Congress blames RSS for its failure to win any seat in assembly elction.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM (May 08 HS): The Indian National Congress which got a drubbing in the recently held assembly election in Kerala has found out the reason for its defeat at the end of a tumultuous leadership meeting held at Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. Though many leaders including former chief minister Oommen Chandi, former Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, KPCC president Mullappalli Ramachandran and former KPCC president K Muraleedharan blamed each other for the reasons, they were unanimous in their conclusion that RSS was mainly responsible for the defeat of the Congress candidates in the election. The RSS leadership, bewildered by the finding of the Congress is yet to recover from the initial shock.
The day-long meeting was attended among others by Mallikarjun Kharge, a jester in the court of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and former chief minister A K Antony. While analyzing the reasons for the failure of the party candidates, a lot of dirty linen was washed in public by the leaders. Former Rajya Sabha deputy chairman P J Kurian , whose dreams of contesting this election was nipped in the bed by Chennithala, demanded the immediate resignation of the latter and Ramachandran.
K Muraleedharan, who was fielded at Nemam to close the account of BJP in the State was fuming with anger as he and his sister Padmaja Venugopal were forced to bite the dust in this election because of the infamous group rivalries in the party. The Congress in Kerala is vertically divided between Hindus, Christians and Muslims. The Christians have an upper hand in the party because the leadership is under the control of Sonia Gandhi, a Roman Catholic.
When the discussions went out of control, the only way to present a façade of unity was to blame Narendra Modi and RSS for the failure of the Congress party. The why and how of Modi and RSS played spoilsport was not disclosed by anybody. But they were unanimous in their stance against the Sangh Parivar for the failure of Congress.
The leaders who attended the meeting was hoping that Ramachandran would come forward and declare his resignation owning up moral responsibility for the failure of the party. But he accused other leaders of isolating and attacking him without any reasons. “Isolate and attack is the strategy adopted by a section in the party,” said Ramachandran after the day long meeting.
