PRAYAGRAJ, April 10 (HS): The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, or UP Board, has implemented a significant change in the pattern of roll numbers assigned to students taking this year’s High School and Intermediate exams. From now on, the roll numbers will also include the examination year.

The new pattern assigns students a nine-digit roll number instead of the previous seven-digit number. The first two digits reveal the year of examination in which a student is taking the Board test, and the remaining seven digits are the roll number, as in previous years.

“This year, we have made a significant change that will make it easier for not only our office but also for parents and students to determine which year they took their class X or XII board exam since the first two numbers correspond to the year they took the exam,” said UP Board secretary Divyakant Shukla during a candid discussion with HS.

This year, 56,03,813 students have registered to take the UP Board’s class X and class XII exams. There are 29,94,312 students in class X and 26,09,501 students in class XII. The exams, which were scheduled to begin on April 24, were recently postponed by the board.

Exams for both high school and intermediate will begin on May 8. Class X exams will end on May 25, while class XII exams will end on May 28. According to Board sources, the move would benefit the Board’s clerical staff who deal with students’ records, whether it’s issuing duplicate mark sheets or other documents or sorting them by roll numbers.

This year is also the 100th year of the establishment of this one of the largest education boards of the world with over 56 lakhs students registered for appearing in class X and XII board exams.
