Sailing expedition marks INS Virabahu’s golden jubilee

Tamil Nadu: Chennai, March 21 (HS): Indian Naval Sailing Vessel ‘Neelkanth’ began on a sailing expedition giving a big salute to INS Virabahu which marked its 50th anniversary.
Neelkanth began its journey on 19 March after being flagged off by Rear Admiral Puneet Chadha, Rear Admiral Puneet Chadha, the Flag Officer Commanding Tamilnadu and Puducherry Naval Area (FOTNA).
Stepping of Naval waters of Chennai with five officers of INS Virabahu and skippered by Commander Deepak Raj, Neelkanth will make way to Vishakapatnam.
Vishakapatnam is the headquarters of Eastern Naval Command of Indian Navy. Journey from Chennai to Vishakapatnam will be the first leg of the commemorative sailing.
The first leg comprises a sailing of 366 nautical miles. The wind powered sailing is expected to take three days. It will consolidate the sail training of the young crew.
It will help to showcase the courage, discipline, commitment and expertise of the crew in handling any adverse conditions at sea and also their hold on the nuances of sailing.
