2 girls drowned in Ganga, 2 others rescued
PRAYAGRAJ, March 12 (HS): In a heart rendering incident, four minor girls who went to take a holy dip in the river along with their family on the occasion of Mahashivratri on Thursday entered into deep water while bathing at Shahabad Ganga ghat under Manikpur police station of Pratapgarh. Hearing their screams, alert people at the ghat raised the alarm. Swimmers present at the spot dived into the river and tried hard to rescue the girls from drowning. However, only two girls were rescued and the other two drowned. The deceased girls have been identified as Begun and Sangeeta. Meanwhile, swimmers successfully rescued Anjali (10) and Priyanka (11), residents of Antamau village.
Deputy SP (Kunda) Jitendra Singh Parihar while speaking to HS said, “A group of four girls along with their family members had gone to take bath at the Ganga ghat. All these four girls entered into the deep water zone while enjoying bathing and started drowning. An alert swimmer noticed them drowning and jumped into the water to save them. He managed to save Anjali and Priyanka while the lives of Begun and Sangeeta could not be saved.” A drive was underway to fish out the bodies of two girls who are feared drowned.
