Southern Railway salutes womanhood
Tamil Nadu: Chennai, March 9 (HS)Southern Railway headquarters in Chennai was the cynosure of all eyes as the iconic established rose to the occasion to salute the womanhood by celebrating International Womens Day on its premises.
Dr Bina John, President of Southern Railway Women’s Headquarters Organization was the chief guest of the function.
Dr. Bina John who is also an accomplished ophthalmologist, gave a presentation on the various aspects and importance of vision and eye care.
She also answered questions relating to eye care and ophthalmic health during the interactive session.
Dr Bina John congratulated all the women achievers especially the women Covid Warriors who have made a difference in the battle against Covid 19 effectively with their multi tasking abilities.
She mentioned the prominent role played by women in Southern Railway and said various departments in Southern Railway are headed by women.
About 37 outstanding women employees were honored on the occasion.
Women Covid warriors were honored with certificates and cash awards by John Thomas, General Manager, Southern Railway for their meritorious work done during the Covid period.
Prizes were also distributed by chief guest to the outstanding women employees and to the winners of various quiz, debate and elocution competitions held earlier.
VG Bhooma, Senior Deputy General Manager and Chief Vigilance Officer of Southern Railway gave an outline of how the Tamil poet Bharathiar empowered women in his poetic verses.
She read out excerpts of Bharathiar’s inspirational poems, in Tamil and translated them in English as well.
Aruna Nayar, Principal Chief Personnel Officer, Southern Railway welcomed the gathering and congratulated all the women achievers of Southern Railway.

Vaccination
Southern Railway took up the COVID vaccination drive of its employees who would be taking part in the election duty.
Southern Railway in co-ordination with Greater Chennai Corporation organized a special vaccination camp on 8 March.
The vaccination started in the presence of John Thomas, General Manager of Southern Railway and G. Prakash, Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation.
Christopher Pushparaj and Akila, the employees of Chennai division of Southern Railway were the first to receive the vaccination.
Also, 67 employees of Southern Railway Headquarters and Chennai division to be deputed for election duty were vaccinated today.
Employees will be vaccinated in batches not exceeding 100 per day duly adhering to all COVID safety protocols.
Employees of Southern Railway to be deputed for election duty for the oncoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and Kerala will be vaccinated in phases at the respective divisional hospitals or health units.
