SHUATS research scholar gets young biochemist award

PRAYAGRAJ, March 3: A SHUATS, Prayagraj student got young biochemist award along with best oral presentation award during an international conference held in Meerut. A conference on Global approaches in natural resource management for climate smart agriculture (GNRSA-2020) during pandemic era of COVID-19 was held on Shohbhit Deemed University Meerut.

Divya Singh a Ph.D. Scholar of Biochemistry & Biochemical Engineering working under supervision of Dr. Kapil Lawrence, co-supervision Dr. Suresh B.G at SHUATS. She delivered a lecture titled Anti-diabetic activity of foxtail millet (Setariaitalica L. Beauv.).  In her presentation she gave important information about nutritional benefits of foxtail millet, the most important being the anti-diabetic effects. She shared that the global diabetes prevalence in 2019 is estimated to be 9.3% (463 million people), rising to 10.2% (578 million) by 2030 and 10.9% (700 million) by 2045.

Its treatment in very important but allopathic although being readily available, gives short term benefits and also has side-effects. Through her research and survey Divya has observed that foxtail millet can be used as herbal medicine for treatment of diabetes along with regular exercise, yoga and proper precautions. She received appreciations from organization committee, delegates and officials for her presentation.

She received young biochemist award along with best oral presentation. Divya acknowledged the due guidance, encouragement and support extended by faculty members including Director Research, Directorate of Seed and Farm Prof. (Dr.) Shailesh Marker and university for achieving her goals. Vice Chancellor of SHUATS Prof. Dr. R. B. Lal congratulated research scholar for her achievement and blessed her for bright future.
