UP Legislature Council too passes Unlawful Religious Conversion Bill

Lucknow, 25 February (HS) :      The Uttar Pradesh Legislature Council (Vidhan Parishad) too on Thursday passed Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Bill by a voice vote amidst protest by the opposition. Earlier, it was passed in the state Assembly on Wednesday.

 In order to curb Love Jihad the Yogi Cabinet had passed an ordinance to this effect on 24 November.

As per provision this ordinance had to be passed by the legislature within six month. Now it got the nod in both the houses during the ongoing budget session. Now the bill will become law after it would be signed by the Governor.

Under  Unlawful Religious Conversion Law if a person is convicted of doing forceful conversions for the sake of marriage, he shall face imprisonment of between one to five years with a minimum penalty of Rs 15000.
