New Delhi, January 02 (HS): Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been ruled out of the last two Tests against New Zealand due to a fractured thumb, informed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Babar did not play in the first Test as well, after which it was expected that he would recover from his injury, but he failed to do so and now he will have to stay out of the entire series.
“Pakistan national team captain Babar Azam will not be able to play in the second Test against New Zealand at Hagley Oval starting on Sunday. In his absence, Mohammad Rizwan will lead the team,” PCB said in a statement.
“Babar attended a full training session yesterday, but he had mild pain in his thumb, after which the team management has decided not to take any risk,” they added.
Babar suffered an injury during a practice match at Queenstown, after which he is now out of the Test series after being dropped from the three-match T20 series.
