Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Dr.Mukherjee was the epitome of country\u2019s unity as he strongly fought for the principle of \u2018ekbidhan, eknisan, ekpradhan\u2019 to abolish Article 370 of the constitution which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Founder of BJP\u2019s predecessor party Bharatiya Jan Sangh, Dr Mookerjee\u2019s ideals still continue to inspire and guide during the present times, he added.<\/div>\n

\u201cDr.Mukherjee, who attained the post of Vice Chancellor of Kolkata University at the age of 33 years, extended tremendous help in the expansion of Assamese language teaching. He even helped Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi in saving Assam from grouping during partition along with West Bengal and East Punjab\u201d the Chief Minister said.<\/div>\n

Saying that Dr.Mukherjee played a vital role in strengthening India\u2019s ties with Myanmar, Srilanka, Cambodia and Nepal, the Chief Minister highlighted Dr.Mukherjee\u2019s pitch for a \u2018New Era of New Asia\u2019 at Cambodia. The Chief Minister called on the youth to dedicate themselves to the cause of the nation following the ideals of the great personality who sacrificed all for the country.<\/div>\n

The Chief Minister also inspected the campus of Tangara Satra after the programme and assured that all help would be provided in improving infrastructure of the Satra. He urged the Satra Management Committee to submit a proposal to the government within one month for construction of namghar, guest house, paved pathway, pond etc.<\/div>\n
