Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah slams PM Modi’s ‘Empty Promises,’ alleges BJP’s 40% commission drained state
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to address BJP Karnataka’s “disastrous legacy” before targeting Congress. In a post on X, Siddaramaiah emphasized that the Congress government is fulfilling its promises, implementing five key guarantees with a budget allocation of ₹52,000 crore and an additional ₹52,903 crore in capital investments for the state’s future.
He accused the previous BJP government of corrupt practices, claiming it drained Karnataka with “40% commission corruption.” He asserted, “We’re redirecting that 40% commission towards the people’s benefit,” questioning what BJP had truly achieved for the state besides deepening debt and relying on propaganda.
Siddaramaiah also criticized Modi’s handling of the national economy, stating, “Under your watch, India’s debt will reach ₹185.27 trillion by FY25—56.8% of GDP. This isn’t just bad governance; it’s a burden on every Indian.”
He further argued that despite Karnataka’s significant financial contributions to the Union, the state receives only 13 paise per rupee in return. “This isn’t cooperative federalism; it’s exploitation,” he said, claiming the BJP-led central government withheld Karnataka’s due funds to obstruct Congress’s welfare schemes.
Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge advised Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar to keep their financial commitments within budget limits, cautioning that excessive spending on guarantees could lead to bankruptcy and burden future generations.
Siddaramaiah’s statements reflect rising tensions between state and central governments, as well as Congress’s strong criticism of BJP’s economic policies at both state and national levels.
